I’ve been in church my entire life and suicide is one of those “taboo” topics that doesn’t get discussed often, but suicide is something that needs to be talked about because too many people are suffering in silence. When it comes to suicide, too often, the church says “you are going to hell”, and that’s as far as te coversation goes. If you are depressed, you are told “just pray about it.” Honestly, to someone in need of more than prayer, that’s extremely insensitive. That does not sit well with me. In 2017, I wanted to do something about that and find a way to start the conversation. So I reached out to different Mental Health agencies to partner with to bridge the gap between faith based community and the professionals. No one answered my call for weeks. BUT Crisis Support Services of Alameda County DID. We put together a benefit concert and I joined the board a year later.
