Since 1982, Crisis Support Services of Alameda County (CSS) has provided low-fee grief therapy services to residents of Alameda County who are bereaved or affected by loss through death, including deaths by suicide, homicide, or a sudden loss. Our goal is to provide a supportive environment for people to process their grief and loss.
Therapy is provided by mental health trainees and registered associates who receive specialized, ongoing training in grief and trauma, and are supervised by licensed mental health professionals with expertise in grief and trauma work.
We offer two types of grief therapy:
Individual Grief Therapy
Grief therapy is provided to individuals of all ages with a specific focus on grief and loss from the death of a significant person, including loss from homicide and suicide. We currently do not offer therapy for anticipatory or symbolic grief. Services are offered in our offices in Oakland or virtually.
We also offer Couples Therapy and Family Therapy for grief in our offices in Oakland.
Grief Therapy Groups
We offer 8-week, facilitator-led grief groups 3 to 4 times a year in our offices in Oakland as well as drop-in grief groups in the community at various locations.
Our current grief groups are:
GENERAL GRIEF GROUP
SUICIDE LOSS GRIEF GROUP
More information about Grief therapy groups can be found here or sign up for the mailing list to be notified about future meeting dates.
Fees
Fees for grief therapy are on a sliding scale, and no one is turned away for an inability to pay. On average, people pay $10 per session of group therapy and $30 for individual therapy. “Victims of Crime” funding is available. All contributions help CSS continue to serve the community.
Payments can be made easily through our payment page, and QR codes provided on-site to help link to payment options.
