This fun, family-friendly fundraising event benefits Crisis Support Services of Alameda County which operates a 24-hour suicide prevention hotline, text line, school and community-based counseling, and also school and community-based educational presentations. All of our services are focused on reducing suicide and crisis, and improving wellness in our communities. We have been providing educational presentations in the local community at Castro Valley High School and Canyon Middle School, as well as schools in Hayward, San Leandro, San Lorenzo, Pleasanton, Fremont and Newark. Last year, we received more than 50,000 calls on our hotline and over 30% of our total client outreach takes place in the South County area.
This year it’s even more important to make this event a success. With the launch of 988 as the new nation-wide number for Suicide and Crisis Lifeline, CSS, which is Alameda County’s 988 center, has experienced a 45% increase in call volume during the first 100 days of 988. In response, we have almost doubled our staff and expanded the hours for our textline by 225%.
We will promote donors in a display at the event as well as social media posts before the event and on a thank you message in our online newsletter.
